Robin's Diary

European Championship Football for Robin's Diary

Predictions, sensible or wishful thinking?

As the biggest sporting event, or maybe the only big sporting event, kicks off this week, the media is going, as they usually do, Football crazy - and the predictions are we are going to win a major competition.

Don’t get me wrong, I would absolutely love England footballers to win something meaningful, just as I celebrate any British Sporting success, but based on history, and evidence, is there really any justification other than wishful thinking? I hope so!

But the press is full of predictions! For some reason, when it’s political or vital to the success of the economy, it always seems to be negative. When it’s sporting, we always seem to get far too excited and then suffer the disappointment. We all know we have to have some balance in our lives, and try to avoid getting too ‘up’ when things are good, because we will also suffer deep ‘downs’ when things don’t go to plan –

So, the moral of this week’s diary, is to keep our feet on the ground, hope England does well, both England Football and England economically, but whichever way it turns out, England is still a wonderful place, that most people in the world want to live in or visit.
