Robin's Diary: 6/6/24

A changing world.

Celebrations for the 80th Anniversary of D-Day have brought home to me how things have changed. As I am over 60, I was born at a time that now seems to be just after the war. During my childhood, the war seemed to be ancient history, but is now closer to my birthdate than the new millennium!

Most of us nowadays have no concept of what it must have been like - not only being in the armed forces but just growing up in the 40s - and we have so much to thank the ‘generation who saved Europe’ for.

We think times have changed recently, what with the internet, the digital world etc, but, in reality, it was 80 years ago that the biggest change in our lives happened, and for those who gave everything to achieve that, we should always be grateful.
So, thanks very much to the vast numbers of people who gave so much, and I never had the chance to thank them personally.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can't--you're right.” Henry Ford, and fortunately the brave people in 1944 thought they could and they did! Still a great ethos for 2024.
