Look who’s behind you….

The old and probably not PC saying, “Behind Every Great Man is a Great Woman” seems to date back to the 1940s. The woman in question usually is a wife or a mother; the observation is that no man gets to be "great" in a vacuum, and some woman, somewhere, had a hand in the man's success.

Yes, this should be modified for the current society, but the theme is still the same.  As we come out of lockdown and hopefully return to normality, most of us can thank those who have been behind us, supporting us through a challenging year. Regardless of gender, it's in difficult times when we all need support more than ever.

Working from home, not working, going to work and putting yourself or your family at risk have all created their own problems, and it's easy to forget about partners and friends who we all need to firstly support and encourage, but equally as importantly, do it all willingly. We need to understand the hours, or the tensions about job security, health, money etc.

Now things are starting to settle, we all need to reflect on partners, employees, friends and colleagues, who have helped get us through - we might have done it on our own, but I, for one, know it would have been a whole lot harder. I’m not sure about being a great man, but I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of a great woman, amazing colleagues and their families who have supported them through turbulent times.
