Electric car charging point for Robin's Diary

Don’t knock it until you try it!

Being a true petrol head, albeit motorbikes for the last 50 years, I obviously have a massive affinity towards engines - the feel, the noise, the vibration, the roar, and whilst an automatic is easy, a manual is more fun.

Having now driven a number of electric cars, I must admit when I get back in a normal car, I realise I would rather do my commuting in an EV. I would never have expected to be a convert, but I am.  In fact, I believe when you have driven an EV, the internal combustion engine will become a distant memory.

EV’s are smooth and quiet, they are far quicker than you expect and the acceleration is mighty impressive. Yes they do have a range, but I am now realising it has substantial benefits. My commute is 22 miles - I charge it at home overnight, and don’t have to waste any time stopping for fuel. It might only be 5 minutes here and there, but it’s usually when you least have time, no problem, the EV is always full. Yes, if I go on a longer journey, over 200 miles, I will have to wait maybe 30 minutes to charge it, but that’s only the same time it would take to stop for fuel, or to have to go out of you way to get fuel a few times.

Trust me, once you drive one, I would be surprised if you go back to petrol or diesel.  If range is a problem, go Plug-in, and get the best of both worlds - the EV revolution is coming and it’s coming a lot faster than anyone thought a year or 2 ago.

“The thing I love about electric vehicles is not stopping in gas stations. We're so accustomed to that... Now I'm in control of when I refuel.”  Franz von Holzhausen
